Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Jessamine Co. JAMES L. WILDS, M.D., the second son of B. F. Wilds and Eliza G. Dismukes, was born October 11, 1851, in Garrard County, Ky. James L. Wilds' grandparents, Benjamin Wilds and William Dismukes, were both Virginians, and he is of English extraction. His youth was spent on a farm, receiving a good practical English education. At the age of twenty he entered the mercantile business at Lancaster, Ky., continuing until 1874, when he removed to Buena Vista, Ky., and there followed mercantile pursuits until he came to Nicholasville in 1877, where he sold goods until 1883. December 1, 1874, he married Miss Lizzie S., a daughter of Dr. J. C. Welch of Nicholasville. In 1883 he took a course of lectures at Chicago Medical College, but has since become a convert to homoeopathy, and intends finishing his medical studies in that school of the science. In 1884 he passed a successful examination before the State Medical Board and began the practice of his profession at Sulphur Well, Ky., and is proving himself a successful physician. Mr. and Mrs. Wilds are the parents of five children: J.C.W., Mary L., Olive R., Sallie R. and Thomas G. Mr. Wilds is a member of the I.O.O.F., and, with his wife, a member of the Missionary Baptist Church at Nicholasville. His brother, Harry G. Wilds, now deceased, was twice elected county attorney of Garrard County. Ben F. Wilds, the only living brother, is a successful farmer at Buena Vista, Ky.
