WELCH, lawyer, and native of Jessamine County, was born on th 2d of June, 1857, the eldest son of Dr. Squire D. and Sallie (Phillips) Welch. John H. is a graduate of the Wesleyan College at Millersburg, Ky., having entered that institution in 1874 and was graduated in 1877. In 1878 he began the study of law, and in the following year entered the law department of the University of Louisville, graduating in 1881, and in the same year began practice at Nicholasville. Previous, in 1877, he was elected superintendent of common schools of the county, filling this new office two years. In 1882 he was appointed master commissioner of the common pleas court; in 1884 was also elected master commissioner of the circuit court and is at present filing both official positions.
