William Turner, the grandfather, was born in Virginia, and immigrated to Garrard County in the latter part of the eighteenth century. Joseph P. In January, 1868, he was married to Myra Saunders, only daughter of Giles and Sarah (Hockaday) Saunders, who were born in New Kent County, Va., and Madison County, Ky., respectively. Mr. Giles Saunders, who now resides in Jessamine County, was born on May 12, 1810, and is of English origin. He had a brother in the war of 1812, and has been a citizen of Kentucky since 1825.
