GREEN B. SAGESER, born February 6, 1839, is the fifth son of Henry and
Nancy (Woodward) Sageser.  Henry Sageser, born February 8, 1804, was a
farmer, and died in Jessamine County, April 13, 1882.  Mrs. Nancy Sageser
was born in Jessamine County in 1808, and died in 1864.  Green B. Sageser's
paternal grandfather, Frederick Sageser, was a native of Pennsylvania, and
came to Jessamine County at any early day.  He was a miller by trade, built
and ran the Sageser Mill, six miles west of Nicholasville, also carried on
farming, and died in Jessamine County in his eighty-seventh year. He was a
member of the Methodist Church.  Green B.'s father and mother were also
members of the Methodist Church.  Green B. Sageser was born five miles
west of Nicholasville; was reared on a farm and educated at the common
schools; was a farmer in Jessamine County up to 1883, when he bought what
is known as the Cedar Mill, located seven miles southwest of Nicholasville,
on Big Hickman Creek; this is a water mill, and grinds wheat and corn.  He
also has a saw mill about 100 yards from the grist-mill; it is an old
fashioned sash saw run by water power and is quite a curiosity.  Green B.
owns and runs both mills, and also carries on farming and raising stock,
making a specialty of sheep and cattle.  He was married March 4, 1874, to
Miss Mattie Fain, of Jessamine County, daughter of Larkin and Zorada
(Kersey) Fain.  Larkin Fain was born in Jessamine County August 9, 1809.
He carried on farming and stock raising; was constable fourteen years, and
justice of the peace about ten years; was also deputy sheriff under Andrew
McCampbell during the war, and was elected to the Legislature in 1854 by
the Democratic party.  He was a Master Mason, had been Worshipful Master
four terms, and belonged to the Ion Lodge, No. 301, Little Hickman, Ky.,
and died October 5, 1875.  Mrs. Zorada Fain was born in Garrard County,
Ky., August 22, 1815, and is still living.  Mr. and Mrs. Sageser have had
one child born to them, Ralph C. Sageser, born October 31, 1876.  Mr.
Sageser is a member of the Democratic central committee.  He and his wife
are members of the Methodist Church South, and he owns 150 acres of land
in Sulphur Well District, seven miles south of Nicholasville, in Jessamine
County, on the Watts Mills and Sugar Creek Turnpike.
