Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Jessamine Co. GEORGE S. MITCHELL is a son of Boswell and Susan (Robinson) Mitchell, natives of Fayette County, Ky. The mother died in 1840, and the father in 1866, in Fayette County. The grandfather was Richard Mitchell. The maternal grandfather was Benjamin Robinson. Richard Mitchell was a native of Maryland, and settled in Fayette County, Ky., late in the last century. George S. Mitchell was born May 23, 1813, in Fayette County, near the Clark County line. He was reared on the homestead, and in 1840 moved to Jessamine County and purchased his present residence, situated on the Union Mills Pike, about five miles from Nicholasville, in Marble Creek District. The place contains 300 acres, and Mr. Mitchell is principally engaged in breeding mules and stock of various kinds. He was married in 1835 to Miss Mary Eastin, daughter of Capt. A. F. Eastin, of Fayette County. This lady died in 1836. In 1840 Mr. Mitchell married Miss Louisa Soper, daughter of Charles Soper, of Bourbon County, Ky., and to this union have been born the following children: Mollie (Mrs. James McConathey), Thomas F., Emma J., Charles S. and Alonzo P. Mr. Mitchell was elected, in 1842, justice of the peace, and continued in office for twelve years. He is a member of East Hickman Baptist Church.
