Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Jessamine Co. DR. WILLIAM H. MATHEWS was born on February 12, 1856, and is the third son of William H. and Sarah (Porter) Mathews. William H. Mathews, Sr., is a native of Virginia, and his wife was born in Jessamine County, Ky. William H. Mathews, Jr., is a native of Jessamine County, Ky., and is a collegian. He commenced to read medicine in 1881, and took his first course of lectures at the Hospital Medical College of Louisville, commencing in September, 1881, and in the spring and summer of 1882 he attended the Kentucky School of Medicine. He took his third course in the fall of 1882, and graduated in February, 1883, at the Hospital Medical College. He also took a special course in microscopy. He is now located on the Lexington and Danville Turnpike, three miles south of Nicholasville, where he was born, and has a good practice. He was married August 20, 1884, to Miss Fannie Scott, who was born six miles south of Nicholasville, on the Lexington and Danville Turnpike. She is the daughter of Thomas B. and Hannah (Logan) Scott. Thomas B. Scott was born in Jessamine County, and died in 1871; his widow was born in Lincoln County. Two children blessed this union: Thomas S., born June 4, 1885, and William H., born October 24, 1886. He owns the forty-four acres of land where he now resides.
