Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Jessamine Co. JAMES B. LOGAN. One of the pioneers of Kentucky was David Logan, born and raised in Virginia, and who accompanied his uncle, Gen. Benjamin Logan, on his second visit to Kentucky. He settled in what is now known as Lincoln County, Ky., and took part in the building of Logan's fort. He married Mary Perrie, of Virginia, and by her was the father of seven children: Hugh, Betsey (Mrs. Reuben Emerson), Polly (Mrs. James Forsyth), Margaret (Mrs. Samuel Robinson), John, David and George. John Logan, the fifth child of the above, was born in Lincoln County May 4, 1790, and married Mary (Logan) Stephenson, and grandniece of Benjamin Logan. Mrs. Malinda Logan died in August, 1832, and John Logan, March 21, 1846, leaving the following named children: Mary (Mrs. John M. Haydon), David S., James B., Elizabeth (Mrs. A. T. Lavel), William G., Thomas (now deceased) and Margaret A. (also deceased). James B. Logan, the second son and third child of John and Malinda Logan, was born in Lincoln County, August 11, 1822, on Logan's Creek. At the age of fifteen he engaged as clerk with Harvey Helm, of Stanford, and remained with him five years. In 1848 he was elected deputy sheriff, and was also county assessor for the years 1847, 1850 and 1851. In the fall of 1851 he moved to Jessamine County, and settled on his present place of 220 acres, called Sunny Side, on the banks of Hickman's Creek, where he is engaged in general farming. May 17, 1849, he married Miss Lucy, daughter of David and Maria (Tapp) Arnold, of Jessamine County. The children of this union are as follows: Anna M. (Mrs. John G. Masters), William A., John L., Mary K. (Mrs. John J. Bronaugh) and Randie E. Mr. and Mrs. Logan are members of the Bethany (Christian) Church. John Logan, the father of James B., was a lieutenant in Capt. Owsley's company, of Lincoln County, in the war of 1812, and took part in the battle of New Orleans.
