JOHN HAYDON, a native of Culpeper County, Va., settled in Jessamine County, Ky., at an early date, and located about where the Mount Pleasant Church now stands, on the Keene and South Elkhorn Pike, and where, at the time of his death, he owned between 400 and 500 acres of land. He had been twice married, and was the father of seven children: Thomas, Elijah, Noah, William, Abner, Lucy (Mrs. Abram Sallee) and Mary (Mrs. George). His son, William, married Sarah Garnett, daughter of Thomas and Sarah Garnett, and to this union were born the following children: Martha (Mrs. George King), Fannie (Mrs. Levi Bourne), Lucy (Mrs. David Dale, of Missouri), Whitfield, Jarvis, Thomas and Jeremiah. Of these, Whitfield Haydon was born April 4, 1804, in Jessamine County, and at the age of twenty engaged in buying and selling live stock. In 1884 he purchased his present home of 450 acres on the Lexington and Harrodsburg Pike, where he is engaged extensively in rearing horses and cattle, and he also owns a farm of 200 acres in Fayette County. July 30, 1845, he married Miss Sarah, daughter of Jeremiah and Frances (Craven) Singleton. Four children have blessed this union, viz.: Sandord T., William B., Fannie (Mrs. Horace Cleveland) and James W., who assists his father in the management of his business. Mr. and Mrs. Haydon are members of the Mount Pleasant Church.
