Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Jessamine Co. ANDREW GREGG and his wife, Martha Jane Pougue, of Halifax County, Va., located many years ago about four miles from Lexington, Ky. They were the parents of seven children, as follows: Samuel, David, Harvey, Darius, Salley (Mrs. Dr. Cassells), Mary (Mrs. Dr. Cassells) and James. The father of James M. Gregg, James, the son of Andrew, was born in Fayette County, Ky., in 1791, and married Susan McCampbell, who was born in 1796, and died August 5, 1847. Her husband died January 17, 1834. They had removed to Jessamine County, and settled six miles west of Nicholasville, where James M. Gregg was born. At the age of twenty, James M. Gregg took charge of the home farm, and in 1843 married Miss Martha L., daughter of Samuel and Fannie (Bourne) Simpson. Mrs. Martha L. Gregg died in May, 1857, leaving two children: Samuel S. (now deceased), who married Henrietta Hoover, and had born to him two children, Luke B. and Bessie. Samuel S. Gregg was a member of Company B, Eighth Kentucky Cavalry, under Morgan, served throughout the war, and died December 5, 1885. J. M. Gregg resides upon a far of 300 acres on Hickman Creek, five miles from Nicholasville, and has living with him two grandchildren. He is a member of the Bethany Christian Church.
