Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Jessamine Co. JOHN FUNK, born April 2, 1834. He is the second son of Peter and Susan (West) Funk. The former was born June 9, 1801, in Jessamine County, was a farmer all his life, and died June 19, 1851. Mrs. Susan Funk was also born in Jessamine County in 1804, and died in 1859. John Funk is of German descent, and was born three miles southwest of Nicholasville. He was raised on a farm, and has been a farmer all his life. He was married, November 19, 1854, to Miss Sarah, daughter of John and Polly (Yost) Dean, of Jessamine County. John Dean died in April, 1886; Mrs. Dean in 1855. Ten children have been born to Mr. and Mrs. Funk; the names of those living are: John P., born February 15, 1855; Charlie W., November 18, 1859; Beatrice, September 30, 1861; Henry E., February 21, 1863; George H., February 22, 1865; Sallie B., January 15, 1868; Willie H., August 3, 1870; Thomas M., June 5, 1872, and Maggie M., September 13, 1874. The deceased daughter, Bettie, was born February 16, 1856, was married March 6, 1878, to Taylor Swope, of Jessamine County, and died in January 1879. Mr. Funk and wife belong to the Christian Church, and also three of their children: John P., Charlie W. and Beatrice. Mr. Funk is owner of fifty acres of good land in Lee District.
