Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Jessamine Co. CHARLES S. EVANS was born October 17, 1853, and is the second son of Peter and Elizabeth (Smith) Evans. Peter E. Evans was born in Fayette County, Ky., January, 1815, remained in Fayette County until 1833, then moved to Jessamine County, and engaged in farming. Elizabeth Evans, was born in Jessamine County, and died June 20, 1886. Our subject's paternal grandfather, Beland Evans, was born in Virginia, immigrated to Kentucky in an early day, settled in Jessamine County, and was a farmer all his life. Charles S. Evans was reared on a farm seven miles south of Nicholasville, and farmed up to 1876, then commenced to work in the flouring mill, which he now is and has been employed for the last ten years.
