Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Jessamine Co. LUTHER A. DAVIS is a son of William and Martha R. (Ricketts) Davis, the father a native of Madison County, Ky., born April 5, 1801, and died in September, 1785; the mother, a native of Jessamine County, was born August 10, 1804. Luther A. Davis' maternal grandfather, Thomas Ricketts, was a native of Maryland. His paternal grandfather, Henry Davis, native of Virginia, settled in Madison County at an early date, and owned 150 acres. Luther A. Davis was born March 30, 1841; was educated at the common schools. At the age of twenty-six he rented a small farm in Woodford County, remained there three years, then returned to Jessamine and purchased his present place of 188 acres. October 2, 1862, he joined Company B, Eighth Cavalry, Morgan's brigade, and was discharged the following February for disability. Me married, Jun 4, 1867, Miss Mary Donnohue, daughter of John Jay Donnohue, of Montgomery, Ky. They has six children: John, Annie, Leslie, Mamie, Warren and Emma. Mr. and Mrs. Davis are members of the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church.
