JOHN C. COX was born in Mercer County, Ky., August 8, 1854, the second son
of Preston and Susan (Curd) Cox.  Preston Cox was born in Mercer County,
Ky., and has always farmed.  John C. was reared on a farm, and has always
followed that occupation.  He was married, January 29, 1874, to Miss Alma
Curd of Jessamine County, daughter of Robert and Mary E. (Curd) Curd. Mr.
Curd was born in Jessamine County in 1820, and died December 20, 1882. Mrs.
Curd was born in Mercer County.  Five children have been born to Mr. and
Mrs. Cox: Preston R., Permelia E., Guilford K., Joseph E. and George P.
Mr. Cox and wife are members of the Baptist Church, and he owns 217 acres
of land in Lee District, nine miles southwest of Nicholasville.  Mrs.
Susan Cox, wife of Brother Preston Cox, and daughter of John and Mary Curd,
died of consumption in Mercer County, Ky., on September 11, 1860, in the
twenty-fifth year of her age.  Sister Susan was born April 13, 1835,
and united herself with the Baptist Church at Shawnee Run, November 15,
1850, and was married to Brother Cox November 10, 1853.  She was an
affectionate daughter while under her parental roof, and when married
made a good wife, kind mother, and, as a Christian, she was much devoted
and pious.  When dying she gave some tokens of love to her parents and
husband to forget her not, and to meet her in heaven.  About fifteen days
before her death she was called to witness the death of her little son,
Benjamin, who was in his fifth year, but the separation was short, they
soon met again.  "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord, from henceforth
yea saith the spirit, that they may rest from their labors and their works
do follow them."
