THOMAS BUTLER, the eldest son of the late John Butler, of Jessamine County, was born on the old home place on the 7th of August, 1836. His mother was Mary Settle, daughter of Thomas Settle, who was long a worthy and respectable citizen of Mercer County, was an amiable Christian lady, and a devoted member of the Presbyterian Church. John Butler was a native of Virginia; settled in Jessamine County in 1819, and was several terms its high sheriff, under the constitution of 1799. He was an honorable man and a faithful and efficient officer in the discharge of his public duties. Thomas Butler is an extensive farmer and has never followed anything else. In November, 1863, he was married to Miss Phebe Wynne, Fayette County, daughter of Owen and Phebe Stonestreet. Owen Wynne was born in Fayette County, and his wife in Clark County, Ky. To Mr. Butler's marriage have been born six children: Owen W., James, Mary, Thomas, Lydia C. and John.
