Lawyers and Lawmakers of Kentucky, by H. Levin, editor, 1897. Published by Lewis Publishing Company, Chicago. Reprinted by Southern Historical Press. p. 291. Jefferson County. AUGUSTUS E. WILLSON, of Louisville, was born in Maysville, Kentucky, on the 13th of October, 1846, and was educated in Harvard College, graduating in the class of 1869. He came to Louisville, Kentucky, in October, 1870, and entered upon the study of law in the office of John M. Harlan, afterward associate justice of the supreme court of the United State. For some time he continued his studies and then entered into partnership with General John M. Harlan in June, 1874. In 1875 he accepted the position of chief clerk in the treasury department of the United States at Washington, District of Columbia, in which capacity he served until the following year, when he resigned. His law practice has been large and lucrative and he has attained to a commanding position at the Louisville bar. Mr. Willson has taken a most prominent part in public affairs and is a leading representative of the Republican party in Kentucky. In 1879 he was made the nominee of his party for the office of state senator; in 1880 was a Blaine candidate for delegate and after a heated contest was seated. In 1884 he was nominated by acclamation as the Republican candidate for congress, and in 1886, 1888, and again in 1892 was thus honored. In 1896 he was prominently named as the candidate for the United States senate. His labors in the political field have been most straightforward and honorable; his methods above question, and his course has commanded the respect and confidence of even his political opponents. Louisville ranks him among its most respected citizens, prominent lawyers and leading politicians. Willson Harlan = Maysville-Mason-KY http://www.rootsweb.com/~kygenweb/kybiog/jefferson/willson.ae.txt
