Lawyers and Lawmakers of Kentucky, by H. Levin, editor, 1897. Published by Lewis Publishing Company, Chicago. Reprinted by Southern Historical Press. p. 293. Jefferson County. C.B. SEYMOUR was born in Louisville, June 17, 1846, attended the public schools and was graduated at the Louisville Male High School on the 28th of June, 1860. His first service in the business world was an educator. He spent two years as professor of mathematics in Shelby College, of Shelbyville, Kentucky. His choice of life-work, however, fell upon the law, and he entered the law department of the University of Louisville. In 1868 he obtained his license and was admitted to the bar, since which time he has successfully practiced in his native city. He has never been a candidate for office, but has frequently been chosen as special judge of one or another of the divisions of the Jefferson circuit court during the absence of the regular judge. Continuously since 1874 he has been chosen as one of the directors of the Louisville Law Library, a corporation the stock of which is held by members of the Louisville bar. In 1890 he became professor of equity jurisprudence, mercantile law and constitutional law in the University of Louisville, which professorship he still holds.
