Kentucky: A History of the State, Perrin, Battle, Kniffin, 8th ed., 1888, Jefferson Co. J. SEL. MILLER was born in Jefferson County, and is a son of John and Mary S. (Seaton) Miller, also natives of Jefferson County. His grandfather came from North Carolina about 1780, and settled near Louisville. His maternal grandfather, Seaton, came from Virginia about the same time. When subject was four years old his father moved into the city. He was educated in the city schools. In 1864 he enlisted in the Fifth Louisiana Cavalry, and was captured at Cuba, Ky., soon after enlistment. In 1880 he was appointed Commissioner of Louisville Chancery and Law and Equity Courts. He is an active politician of the Democratic school, and has been a delegate to all important conventions for the past fifteen years. He was married in 1868 to Miss Mollie T.
