Kentucky: A History of the State, Perrin, Battle, Kniffin, 8th ed., 1888, Jefferson Co. JOSEPH A. MILLER, M.D., is a native of Nelson County, Ky., and was born March 11, 1861. He is a son of Irvin Miller, also a native of Nelson County. His great-grandfather, George Miller, came from Virginia, and settled in that county, among the earliest settlers. The family is of German origin, but came to America before the Revolutionary war. The subject was reared on the farm and educated at Greenwell College, at Bardstown. He read medicine with Dr. F. A. Barnett, and graduated from the Kentucky school of medicine in 1885. He also took an unofficial course at the Medical University of Louisville. In the meantime he has been offered an assistant surgeon's position in the Kentucky School of Medicine. He is one of the rising young physicians of Louisville, and stands deservedly high; he is also a deacon in the Twenty-second and Walnut Street Baptist Church.
