Kentucky: A History of the State, Perrin, Battle, Kniffin, 8th ed., 1888, Jefferson Co. PHILIP HINKLE, a native of Louisville, was born in 1846. His parents, Philip and Mary Hinkle, were both born in Germany. He was educated in the schools of this city, and July 10, 1862, when about sixteen years of age, he enlisted in Company G, Twenty-eighth Kentucky United States Infantry, and served until June, 1865, when he was honorably discharged. At the close of the war he returned home, and in 1879 was elected city auditor; was re-elected in 1881, and subsequently was elected to the city council from the eleventh ward. Mr. Hinkle was married to Miss Elizabeth Zink, of Louisville, in 1868, and has two children--Nettie and Arthur. His is a member of the Knights of Honor, and of the G.A.R.
