Kentucky: A History of the State, Perrin, Battle, Kniffin, 8th ed., 1888, Jefferson Co. E. ALFRED GRANT, Jr., general agent of the Imperial Life Insurance Company of Detroit, Mich., was born June 24, 1860, in Louisville, Ky. He is a son of Dr. E. A. Grant, one of Kentucky's most prominent surgeons, who ranks high among the learned men of the country; was one of the founders and now the secretary of the Polytechnic Society of Kentucky. E. Alfred Grant, Jr., the subject of this sketch, was reared in Louisville, and educated in her public schools, finishing at the Male High School. He commenced his commercial life as office boy in the plow factory of Brinly, Miles & Hardy, and in less than a year was traveling in their interest. For several years he occupied the same position with the well known house of B. F. Avery & Sons. He resigned his position with them and took the local agency for an insurance company, and in six months was offered and accepted the general agency of the Imperial Life Insurance Company, with whom he has since been connected. Mr. Grant was married in October, 1883, to Miss Eloise Hiter, of Woodford County, daughter of D. P. Hiter, and niece of Hon. John M. Harlan of the U. S. Supreme Court.
