Kentucky: A History of the State, Perrin, Battle, Kniffin, 8th ed., 1888, Jefferson Co. DR. CARY B. BLACKBURN was born April 29, 1838, in Woodford County, Ky., and is a son of Dr. Luke P., and Ella (Boswell) Blackburn. He received his early education in Natchez, Miss., and afterward at college at Frankfort, Ky., where he graduated in 1858. He commenced the study of medicine at once with Dr. Gross, of Philadelphia, and graduated in 1861. During the prevalence of the yellow fever in Natchez, in 1865, he nobly aided his father in administering to those afflicted. He participated actively in the late Civil war, first as a lieutenant in the Confederate army, then as lieutenant-colonel of his regiment, and for awhile as surgeon. He returned to Kentucky in 1868, and resumed the practice of medicine at Louisville, where he has established a lucrative business, and holds an active and honorable position in the profession. He is a member of the Kentucky State Medical Society, and is a man of exceptional personal and professional habits.
