Kentucky: A History of the State, Perrin, Battle, Kniffin, 8th ed., 1888, Jefferson Co. JULIUS W. BEILSTEIN, a native of Louisville, was born February 22, 1861, son of Earnest Beilstein, native of Darmstadt, Germany, and born September 20, 1832; landed at New Orleans in 1845, and came to Louisville in 1847. He married, in 1859, Miss Julia O. Schnatterer, a native of Louisville, and daughter of Frederick Schnatterer, a native of Stuttgart, Germany, and who came to Louisville in 1834. Julius W. Beilstein was educated at the public schools of this city, and at fifteen (1876), he entered the insurance business. He accepted an offer in 1881 which carried him to Chicago, as special agent and adjuster for the Springfield Fire and Marine Insurance Company of Massachusetts. In 1884 he returned to Louisville to accept the secretaryship of the Falls City Insurance Company. He was married January 26, 1886, to Miss Effie Lee Duncan, a native of Louisville, and daughter of William J. Duncan. January 1, 1888, he resigned his position with the Falls City Insurance Company to accept the management of the Anglo-Nevada Assurance Corporation of San Francisco, Cal., for the South.
