Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Henry Co. REV. JOHN F. YOUNG was born in Henry County, Ky., September 2, 1818, the fourth of three sons and three daughters, born to Robert and Elizabeth (Bruce) Young. His father, a native of Maryland, came with his parents to Kentucky; they settled in Henry County, where he became a well-to-do farmer, and died in 1842. He took and active part in the war of 1812. Mrs. Elizabeth Young was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church for many years, and a firm supporter of its principles. Subject's paternal grandfather, Joseph Young, was a native of Maryland; came to Kentucky in an early day, and settled in Henry County, near New Castle. His maternal grandfather, William Bruce, a native of Maryland, came to Henry County, Ky., at an early day, and was among the earliest settlers of Kentucky. On the death of his father our subject engaged in farming for himself. January 14, 1840, he was united in marriage with Martha A. Gaines of Henry County, and the birth of two sons and three daughters followed their union: Edna B., one deceased, Hallie F., Martha E. and John B. Mr. Young is a member of the Masonic fraternity, Marshall Lodge, No. 427, Port Royal, and has attained to the Royal Arch degree; is a member of the I.O.O.F., Martin Lodge, Port Royal. He is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, of which he has been a minister for about thirty years. He has a well cultivated farm of 170 acres in New Castle Precinct, and is justly recognized as one of Henry COunty's upright and honorable citizens.
