SINGLETON was born in Henry County, the eighth of five sons and six daughters born to Armand and Elizabeth (Dockins) Craven. Her father was born in Virginia, February 12, 1786; was a farmer, and died in Henry County. Her mother was a native of Fleming County, near Flemingsburg, and was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church. Her paternal grandfather, Thomas, was a native of Virginia, came to Kentucky, and settled in Jessamine County, where he died. Her grandfather Dockins was a native of Virginia, came to Kentucky, and settled in Fleming County. Our subject was united in marriage, March 24, 1851, with James Singleton, a native of Jessamine County, who died October 18, 1881; was a well-to-do farmer, a member of the Masonic fraternity and of the Missionary Baptist Church. Three sons and four daughters blessed their union: William T., Elisha (deceased), Robert L., Mattie, Cattha A., Bettie B. and Lena (deceased). Mrs. Singleton has a farm of 188 acres, all in good cultivation, in Turner's Precinct. She is a member of the Missionary Baptist Church.
