Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Henry Co. J. T. McGINNIS was born in Fayette County, November 1, 1829, the eldest of nine children born to William J. and Priscilla F. (Wilson) McGinnis. William J. was born in Mercer County, Ky., was a farmer, a son of Thomas T., who was born in Pennsylvania, immigrated to Kentucky in 1778 and settled in Mercer County. Thomas was a son of Thomas, Sr., who was a Revolutionary soldier. J. T. McGinnis left his native county when he was four years old, went with his parents to Grant County, and remained until April, 1883. He was elected sheriff of Grant county in 1866, and served four years, and was appointed county surveyor for one year. He has always been engaged in agricultural pursuits and stock raising, and has 387 acres of good land in Henry County. June 8, 1869, he was united in marriage with Mary A. Hill, of Ireland, Kerry County, and five children have blessed their union: Priscilla G., W. T., Mary B., Erasmus G. and Edith H. Mr. and Mrs. McGinnis are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church South, and he is a Royal Arch Mason.
