Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Henry Co. J. B. MAGRUDER was born in Shelby County, Ky., March 3, 1843, the second of a family of five children born to Nathaniel and Lucy A. (Obannon) Magruder. Nathaniel was born in Shelby County, Ky. He was engaged in agricultural pursuits, and was a son of Nathaniel, who was born in Germany. J. B. was raised in Shelby County until he was nine years old. He then moved to Henry County, lived on a farm, and attended the common schools. In 1861 he enlisted in the Sixth Kentucky Cavalry, Company H, commanded by Walter C. Whitaker, Federal. At the close of the war he returned to Henry County, where he owns 143 acres of fine land near Franklinton, and has been engaged in agricultural pursuits ever since. He was elected magistrate in 1879, and re-elected in 1883 and 1887. He was married, March 7, 1867, to Artemesia Clubb, of Henry County, daughter of Joel Clubb.
