Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Henry Co. DR. E. T. LONG, one of Henry County's leading physicians, was born in New Castle, Henry County, July 25, 1822. His father, Willis Long, was born in Woodford County, Ky., December 15, 1792; moved to Henry County at the age of twenty-two, and located in New Castle. February 18, 1817, he married Harriet Thomas. In 1828 he represented Henry County in the Legislature; was sheriff of Henry County for several years; was engaged in merchandising in New Castle at the time of his death, which occurred July 27, 1833. At that time he was a candidate for the Legislature, but died one week before the election. He was a son of John Long, who was a farmer and stock raiser all his life, and died In Woodford County. Dr. Long was educated at the colleges in New Castle and Versailles and in Oldham County. He clerked in a store for Thomas Bros. from 1840 to 1844, and in the latter year commenced to read medicine with Drane & Foree at New Castle. He attended lectures at the University of Louisville in 1844-48, three full courses, and graduated in March, 1848. He also took a private course on diseases of the brain and chest, and also a private course in surgery. Immediately after graduating he went to Louisiana, and located six miles west of Natchez, Miss., and did the practice for two years for two plantations, belonging to Judge Sparrow and Judge Alexander. He remained only two years there, however, returned to Henry County, located in Lockport and practiced until 1861. He then became assistant surgeon in the Sixth Kentucky Infantry, Federal service, and remained until the close of the war. He then located at Bethlehem, Henry Co., Ky., where he now resides. He is raising fine horses, trotters and steppers, and owns 860 acres of land. He is a Royal Arch Mason. He was married, November 9, 1869, to Leticia Clubb, of Henry County, daughter of Joel Clubb, of Henry County, daughter of Joel Clubb. One child was born to this union, Willis, now deceased. At this writing the Doctor is the nominee of the Republican party for a seat in the next Legislature of Kentucky, from the county of Henry, his birth county.
