Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Henry Co. R. T. HERNDON was born in Scott County, Ky., July 6, 1816. He is the fourth of a family of six children born to John and Elizabeth (Thompson) Herndon. His father was born in Virginia near Orange C. H., immigrated to Kentucky in 1805, settled in Scott County, devoted himself to agricultural pursuits, and also owned a large hemp factory, manufacturing bagging and rope. He died in 1849. He was a son of Zachariah, who was a native of Virginia. R. T. Herndon lived in Scott County until 1850. He was educated at the Georgetown College, Scott County, from which he graduated. In 1850 he located in Henry County, near Eminence. He has always been engaged in agricultural pursuits and stock raising, and has a beautiful farm of 297 acres and a nice residence. He is a gentleman who is ever ready to assist any one who needs aid financially or otherwise.
