Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Henry Co. LEWIS S. ELLIS was born in Henry County, Ky., May 12, 1841. He is the third of a family of ten children born to David and Nancy (Smith) Ellis. David was born in Bourbon County, Ky., was always engaged in agricultural pursuits, and was a son of David Ellis. In 1862 our subject enlisted in the Confederate Army, in Col. Giltner's East Tennessee and West Virginia department, Company F; was three times taken prisoner, but never detained very long. After the war he returned to his native county and commenced to handle fine horses, and is considered the best judge of horses in Henry County. He married, November 27, 1867, Cattie E. Gardner, of Henry County, Ky., and had one child, Cattie L. Mrs. Ellis died in 1872, and January 27, 1876, he married Adelia Moody, of Henry County, daughter of Richard F. Moody. Mr. Ellis owns fifty acres of land, and devotes his whole time to buying, selling and trading in fine horses.
