Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Henry Co. J. E. COOPER was born in Shelby County, Ky., September 14, 1835, a son of Robert and Mary (Fullennider) Cooper. Robert Cooper was born in Shelby County, Ky.; was engaged in agricultural pursuits all his life; was a son of James and Annie (Ramsey) Cooper, the former of whom was a native of Maryland, immigrated to Kentucky in an early day and settled in Clark County. The latter was a native of Shelby County, and a daughter of Jacob Fullennider. When he was eleven years old, J. E. Cooper went to Montgomery County, Ind., remained one year, and then went to Henry County, Ky, where he has been ever since. He was married, February 2, 1859, to Susie Smith, of Henry County, daughter of William and Lucy (Owen) Smith. Eight children blessed this union, three living: William S., Susie and Owen. William S. graduated at Hanover College, Ind., in 1881, and is now in Wichita, Kas.; Susie and Owen are attending the Henry Male and Female College at New Castle, Ky. Mr. Cooper and family are members of the Presbyterian Church. He is a prominent and successful farmer and stock dealer, and is sagacious in the manipulation of all his business matters.
