Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Henry Co. WILLIAM T. COBLIN, M. D., was born in Henry County, Ky., June 17, 1848, the eldest of a family of five sons and four daughters, born to Granville and Sarah A. (Powell) Coblin. His father is a native of Henry County, born in 1827; by occupation a farmer; is a member of the I.O.O.F., and has been magistrate of Port Royal Precinct for ten years; is a member of the Missionary Baptist Church, and is one of the best citizens of his community. Mrs. Sarah A. Coblin was a native of Henry County, born about 1824; was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church, and died in 1882. His grandfather, William Coblin, was a native of Fauquier County, Va., came to Kentucky about 1810, and settled on a farm near Port Royal, where he lived until his death, which occurred in 1860. Subject's maternal grandfather, Thomas Powell, was a native of Kentucky, and by occupation a farmer and trader. He died about 1853. Our subject received his early education at Port Royal. He entered Georgetown College in 1864, where he acquired a good English education, with some knowledge of Latin. He began the study of medicine in 1866, under Dr. L. I. Martin, of Port Royal, with whom he continued for two years, during which time he also attended lectures at Miami College, Cincinnati, Ohio, and graduated from that institution with high honors, in March, 1871. He practiced twelve years at Franklinton, previous to his graduation, after which he went to Turner's, where he has since successfully followed his profession in connection with the drug and grocery trades. He was united in marriage October 29, 1869, with Jennie Carr, of Henry County, and one daughter and one son followed their union: Ella and Reuben M. Politically Dr. Coblin is a Democrat, and a member of the Masonic fraternity, Washington Lodge, No. 129, Campbellsburg.
