Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 3rd ed., 1885, Hart County. THOMAS BEVILL was born in Pulaski County, Va., January 17, 1848. His father, Anan Bevill, is also a Virginian, and was married to Fannie Bocock. He became the parent of twelve children, nine of whom are living: William, Malinda, America, James, Thomas, Harriet, Anan, Marion and Jacob. Mrs. Bevill died in 1874, aged fifty years. Anan Bevill was first a shoe-maker, but later engaged in farming, which he continued up to the time of his retirement from active life; he is now a resident of Leitchfield, in Grayson County. His father was Howell Bevill, of Virginia, of English stock. The ancestry of Mrs. Fannie Bevill came from Scotland. Thomas Bevill attended the common schools of his native county, and finished in 1873 with a course in Gilead Institute at Canmer, Ky. In the same year he engaged in a general merhandising trade at Siboleth, Hart County. At the end of two years he agandoned the goods trade and engaged in farming, and at the same time worked at house and ornamental painting, which he learned under William L. Hawkins, of London, England, which he followed to some extent. He first purchased seventy acres of land, to which he has added by subsequent purchases; he is now the proprietor of 150 acres, which are well improved and productive. He attributes much of his success in business to the help of his wife, to whom he was married December 14, 1874. She was a daughter of W. B. and Eliza Wyatt, and they are the parents of four children: Olive, William I., Esther and Annie. Mrs Elizabeth (Wyatt) Bevill was born September 25, 1859. Her parents, William B. and Eliza A. Wyatt, are both living and are residents of Hart County. Mr. Bevill and wife are members of the Christian Church. He is a Master Mason in Powdermill Lodge, No. 518; he is also a member of the I. O.
