[Harrison County] [Rutland Precinct] JOHN SWINFORD, farmer, P. O. Rutland, was a native of Harrison County, where he was born March 17, 1837. His grandfather, John Swinford, came from North Carolina very early and settled in Harrison County; he died at advanced age of seventy years. His grandfather on mother's side, Edmund Pollard, was a soldier in the Revolutionary. His father, Matthew Swinford, was born in Harrison County in the year 1800; he was a cooper by trade, but farming was his principal occupation; he died in native county, aged seventy years. John Swinford, the subject of this sketch, was early trained to till the soil. He married Nancy, daughter of Thomas and Caroline (Garnett) Rose, of Harrison County; has four children, named and aged respectively: Thos. N., eleven; James D., eight; Cora F., six, Edmund F., three. Both himself and wife are members of the Methodist Church at Boyer's Chapel. Politically he is a Democrat.
