History of Bourbon, Scott, Harrison and Nicholas Counties, Kentucky, ed. by William Henry Perrin, O. L. Baskin & Co., Chicago, 1882. p. 653. [Harrison County] [Cynthiana City and Precinct] FREDERICK A. EVELETH, saddler and harness maker: P. O. Cynthiana, was born in Boston, Dec. 13, 1813, son of Isaac and Alma (Taggert) Eveleth; he, born in Rhode Island, August 25, 1779; was a bookkeeper, and died April 4, 1858; she, a native of England, born about 1783, and dying in 1826. They had seven children, three sons and four daughters, all o whom grew to manhood, and all of whom are dead with the exception of Frederick A., our subject, and two sisters. Mr. Eveleth received his education at New Harmony, Ind., and early learned the trade of saddler. As an incident of interest in the life of our subject, he relates that in 1836, with a friend, he came near losing his life. He and this friend, while crossing a river in New Jersey about dusk, were carried out into the Atlantic by wind and tide, and a storm coming up suddenly, they were tossed about without much ceremony on the part of Old Neptune, but were fortunately cast ashore and were rescued, with what might be termed "fisherman's luck." Mr. Eveleth, in addition to his regular business of saddle and harness making, has at times kept a grocery, and a livery stable awhile. He is a Mason of long standing and has held the responsible position of Treasurer for twenty-three years, during which time he has handled thousands of dollars and never had a discrepancy of a penny. He has also several times represented his Lodge in the Grand Lodge. In Ohio, Oct. 22, 1838, he married Miss Hester Ann Hoffner, born in Hamilton County, Ohio, July 13, 1822, daughter of John Hoffner, a native of Maryland, of German descent. Ten children have blessed this union. George, the oldest, was killed in the Confederate army; Francis died in infancy; those living are: THomas W., John A., Alonzo G., Harriet L., Mary S., Alma T., Ada and Maggie. Himself and wife are Methodists and his is a Democrat. Eveleth Taggert Hoffner = Hamilton-OH MD http://www.rootsweb.com/~kygenweb/kybiog/harrison/eveleth.fa.txt
