Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 3rd ed., 1885, Hardin Co. DR. GEORGE W. STRICKLER, a prominent physician of Stephensburg, Hardin Co., Ky., was born in Jefferson County, Va., November 28, 1826. He came to Kentucky with his father, George W. Strickler, and was then but four years old. (For sketch of parents see that of Dr. Frank P. Strickler, of Elizabethtown.) He was reared in Hardin County, receiving his primary education in Elizabethtown, and afterward attended the St. Joseph's College at Bardstown, Ky. At the age of twenty-three years, having decided upon a professional life, he began the study of medicine, performing the usual preparatory reading under the tutorship of Dr. J. W. Smith, and graduated from the medical department of Jefferson College, Philadelphia, in 1850. In 1851 he established a practice in Nelson County, Ky., in the village of Boston, where he prosecuted a successful practice until 1861, when the tocsin of war had sounded the call for soldiers. He then enlisted in the Sixth Kentucky Infantry, of which regiment he was assistant surgeon, and was also a surgeon in the Mexican war, performing the offices of hospital steward, serving until the close of the war. Dr. Strickler is a man of more than ordinary ability, and has served Hardin County in the Lower House of the Kentucky Legislature. With the exception of his time in military service and one term in the Legislature, his life has been devoted to the practice of his profession, in which he enjoys an enviable reputation. He married Miss Ruth E. Talbott, and has a family of six children: Dr. Clarenca A. Strickler, of Leitchfield, Ky.; Nannie K. (Moorman), Minnie J., George T., Lizzie A. and William C. Strickler. In politics the Doctor affiliates with the Democratic party. Strickler Smith Talbott Moorman = Jefferson-VA Nelson-KY PA Grayson-KY http://www.rootsweb.com/~kygenweb/kybiog/hardin/strickler.gw.txt
