JOHN HELLER, an enterprising citizen of Cecilian Junction, Hardin County,
was born in Wurtemberg, Germany in 1838, and is the son of German parents
named Frederick and Susanna (Huble) Heller. In 1854 John came to the United
States, being then a lad of but sixteen years, and in 1855 he located in
Louisville, where he learned the shoe maker's trade, to which he has
devoted his time chiefly since. His father died in the old country in 1847,
leaving the mother and a large family, who came to the United States, where
the mother died in 1857. John Heller served as a solider in the Eighth
Kentucky Cavalry, enlisting in 1862 for one year, after which he became a
wagon-master, and took part in the noted raids of Gen. John Morgan. Since
1869 he has been a resident of Cecilian Junction, removing there from
Elizabethtown. In his business ventures he has been successful, and now
owns a quantity of valuable real estate, including the hotel of his town,
of which he is proprietor. He was married in Elizabethtown, in 1866, to
Miss Mary E. Rihn, daughter of John Rihn. She died July 1, 1884, leaving a
family of ten children, seniority of age as follows: John F., Annie P.,
Margaret Bell, Mary Emma, George W., Mary Agnes, Sarah E., Gertrude L.,
Robert Henry, Edward P., besides one, Frances, who died in infancy. Mr.
Heller is a member of the K. of H.
