Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 4th ed., 1887 Green Co. DR. E.F. BUCHANAN was born May 29, 1840, and is the fifth child of Thomas and Jane (Caldwell) Buchanan. He grew to manhood on a farm in his native county of Taylor, and received a good English education. At the age of twenty-two he taught in the common schools and commenced the study of medicine with Dr. Wm. B. Mourning, of Roachville. In 1865 he graduated from the University of Louisville and located at Roachville, Green County, where he has since been engaged in a lucrative and extensive practice. In September, 1865, he married J.A. Smoot of Green County, a native of Barren County. To this happy union eight children have been born, six living: Laura J., Mary W., Sallie G., Robert C., Mattie E. and J Hubert. The Doctor and wife are members of the Presbyterian Church. He is also a member of the F. & A. M., and in politics is a Democrat, having cast hid first presidential vote for Gen. Geo. B. McClellan. The Doctor also owns and manages a farm in connection with his medical practice.
