Z.B. THOMAS was born February 11, 1824, in Mercer County, Ky.  He is a
son of Edmond G. and Sarah (Briles) Thomas.  The father was born in
Virginia; he died in February, 1862, aged sixty-eight.  The mother was
born in Mercer County, Ky.; she died in September, 1867.  Our subject
was reared in Shelby County principally.  In about 1848 the family came
to Graves County, where he worked at farming pursuits till about the age
of twenty-eight, since which time he has been engaged in milling 
business, and about eight years in the woolen-mill business; of this mill
he owns one-third.  He was married in 1856 to Elizabeth Albritton, of
North Carolina.  She died March 15, 1865.  They had four children, two
of whom are living - one son and one daughter.
