Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, Kniffin 1st ed., 1885 Reprinted 1972 by Kentucky Reprint Co., Murray, KY. Graves Co. CHARLES I. SHERRILL was born May 14, 1852, in Stewart County, Tenn. He is a son of J.S. and Elizabeth A. (Stevenson) Sherrill. The father was born in Christian County, Ky., and died in 1878, aged fifty-seven years. He owned a farm in Graves County, and was considered one of the best farmers in the section. He handled large quantities of tobacco, as high as from 800,000 to 1,000,000 pounds in a year. Charles was brought up on his father's farm, and at the death of the latter bought out his mother's interest and managed the farm until her death, which occurred August 30, 1883. He then sold this farm and bought another, one mile southwest of Mayfield, consisting of 160 acres. December 1, 1883, he engaged in the livery business in Mayfield, which he still continues. This is knows as the "Mammoth Stable," and well deserves this name, as the stock kept here is not excelled by any in this part of the State. Mr. Sherrill was married in November, 1877, to Miss Alice B. Swain, of Henry County, Tenn. One son was blessed this union. Mr. Sherrill is a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and of the Masonic fraternity. Mrs. Sherrill is a member of the Christian Church.
