PALMER, deputy circuit clerk, was born March 16, 1856, in Benton, Marshall Co., Ky. He is a son of Philander and S.A. (Whittamore) Palmer. The father was born in New Hampshire; he died in 1880, aged fifty-eight; he was a lawyer by profession, and of rare attainments, and few men of the county possessed a greater fund of information than he. He was solicitied to be a candidate for the court of appeals, but declined the honor. The mother was born in 1827 in Rockingham County, N.C., and now lives in Benton, Marshall Co., Ky. After attending the public schools of Benton, Mr. Palmer went to Irvington, Ind.; there attended the Butler University one session, and in 1879 went to Colorado, where he remained one year, also performed clerical work there about one year. In 1882 he came to Mayfield, where he has since performed the duties of circuit clerk with marked ability and dispatch.
