Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 7th ed., 1887, Grant Co. J. H. WESTOVER was born in Grant County, Ky., one mile southeast of Williamstown, November 3, 1863, and is the second child and eldest son of a family of thirteen born to W. H. and E. J. (Page) Westover. W. H. Westover was born in Uniontown, Penn., January 11, 1837, came to Kentucky in 1847, with his parents, and settled in Grant County. He buys and ships walnut and poplar, and is also engaged in agricultural pursuits. He is a son of Homer, who was born at Green River, Columbia Co., N. Y., in 1806. In 1820 he moved to Virginia, subsequently to Pennsylvania, then to Kentucky in 1847. W. H. Westover married, April 21, 1861, E. J. Page, daughter of John K. Page. They had thirteen children, viz: Alice J., J. H., Leolia, George D., W. D., Robert E. L., Monroe, Lizzie F., Priscilla, Ray, Rob R., Max C. and an infant. J. H. Westover was raised on a farm, and received a common-school education. He read law under E. H. Smith, and was admitted to the bar December 12, 1885, and won his first case in the circuit court, five days after he was admitted. He remained about one year with Mr. Smith, and in October, 1886, he formed a partnership with D. C. Points, under the firm name of Westover and Points. Mr. Westover was elected police judge in August, 1886, for a term of four years. Although this law firm is young, they seem to be getting their share of business. They are both strict members of the Baptist Church, and are sober, honest and industrious men. The Judge is a member of the I.O.O.F. Centurion Lodge, No. 100, at Williamstown. He is also a member of the I.O.G.T. Politically he is a Democrat. The Westovers of this county, about forty in number, are descendants of Jonathan Westover, who came from England some time prior to the Revolution, in which struggle he took part with the colonies. Two brothers, who came with him, joined the Tories, went to Canada, and were lost sight of.
