Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 7th ed., 1887, Grant Co. MRS. EDDIE E. THEOBALD is a native of Grant County, Ky., and is a daughter of Dr. James A. and Lucy H. (Carter) Johnson. Dr. James A. Johnson also was born in Grant County, Ky., was a captain in the Eleventh Kentucky Federal Cavalry, and was a very prominent physician. He died in 1876. He was a son of William Johnson, who was a native of Virginia, was one of the early settlers of Owen County, Ky., and was a merchant. Mrs. Lucy H. Johnson was born in Fayette County, Ky., near Lexington, and is a daughter of James and Mary (Edmonson) Carter. James Carter was a native of Virginia, and Mary was a native of Tennessee. Mrs. Eddie E. Theobald was reared in Grant County, Ky., and was educated at the Wesleyan College, Cincinnati, Ohio. She was married, November 9, 1873, to Napoleon Theobald. Napoleon was born in 1846, and was a drug clerk for a number of years, and at the time of his death, and twelve years previous, he owned and managed the largest drug store in the county. He died in 1884, a strict member of the Methodist Episcopal Church South. He was a Master Mason in good standing, also a member of the I.O.O.F. One bright and intelligent child blessed this union--Graham. Mr. Theobald was a genial gentleman of varied information, and fine business judgment. He was modest with regard to himself, generous, unselfish and thoroughly amiable in disposition.
