Souvenir Edition, The Williamstown Courier, Williamstown, Ky, May 30, 1901, reprinted September 19, 1981 by the Grant County KY Historical Society. S. M. TAPP. Popular, sociable and agreeable, Sam M. Tapp, the night operator at Williamstown has won a host of friends here by his attention to business and his desire to serve the people at the same time he serves his company. He was born in Scott County on the 21st day of June, 1871, and is the son of William and Mary (Milford) Tapp. His father was a carpenter, and his youth was spent in humble surroundings. He was an ambitious lad, however, and attended Corinth Academy, where he secured a fairly good education. In 1893 he decided to study telegraphy, and went into the office at Mason under Charlie Jones, an old schoolmate and townsman. His first berth was the Queen and Crescent people at Bracht Station as night operator. He served three years at Sherman, and has worked a good portion of his eight years in Grant County, and has always given the company and the people the very best of service. Mr. Tapp married the charming and accomplished daughter of Newt. Childers, once a resident and police judge of Williamstown, and now a citizen of Covington. They have no children. Mr. Tapp is a man of good habits and fine address, and will no doubt make his mark in the railroad world.
