Souvenir Edition, The Williamstown Courier, Williamstown, Ky, May 30, 1901, reprinted September 19, 1981 by the Grant County KY Historical Society. MILTON JUMP. Upon the hill overlooking the post office and store of New Eagle Mills and Eagle Valley, where thousands of acres of the finest land in the county spread out like a fairy scene before the eyes, lives Milton Jump, or "Uncle Milt" as he is familiarly called. He has occupied the house in which he lives for more than thirty-three years, and was born and raised in a stone's throw of the old place. He is loved by all and without an enemy in the world. Uncle Milt was born on the 2d day of April 1825. His paternal grandfather came from Virginia and his maternal grandfather from Maryland, and both settled in Eagle Valley, one on one side of the creek and the other on the opposite side. Here it was that the Jump family of Grant County became part and parcel of it. The progeny has been numerous, and now there are more voters in this family than any other in the county, save, perhaps, the Webster family. Uncle Milt was reared on a farm and received a good common school education as could be obtained in the schools of those days. He was married in 1848 to Miss Emily Jameson. Eight children were born to this union, four boys and four girls, two boys and two girls of whom are yet living. He is a Democrat, has always been a Democrat and will never be anything else than a Democrat. He has been a power in the elections at Downingsville, and has perhaps wielded as much influence in his precinct as any man in the county during this time. For fifty-five years he has voted that ticket and no other, has always voted at the Downingsville precinct, and more than half the time has cast the first vote polled, and has never missed an election. He has served the district for twelve years as Magistrate, and was a very efficient officer. While the snows of seventy-six winters have whitened his hair and withered his cheeks, he is yet a rugged specimen [sic] of humanity and bids fair to be a part of Downingsville and Eagle Creek for many years to come. He has been ill for several months, but as we write this is much improved. Jump Jameson = MD VA http://www.rootsweb.com/~kygenweb/kybiog/grant/jump.m.txt
