Souvenir Edition, The Williamstown Courier, Williamstown, Ky, May 30, 1901, reprinted September 19, 1981 by the Grant County KY Historical Society. J. T. HURT was ushered into this world near Mount Sterling, Ky., in the stirring times of 1861, and has just passed his fortieth birthday. He had the misfortune to lose his father during the great struggle of the Rebellion, and his mother, finding at the close of the war that her property had all been destroyed, he was thrown upon his own resources early in life, with no one to whom he could look for a helping hand. He has worked himself up to the position he now occupies, by this perseverance and faithfulness in the performance of his duties. He has been in the service of the Queen and Crescent for about 11 years, and has filled the position of agent and telegraph operator at Dry Ridge for eight years continuously. He is an active member of the Christian Church, a member of the Knights of Pythias and of the Improved Order of the Red Men. He is married and has one child, a beautiful little girl living.
