Souvenir Edition, The Williamstown Courier, Williamstown, Ky, May 30, 1901, reprinted September 19, 1981 by the Grant County KY Historical Society. COLONEL R. T. DICKERSON, known far and wide as plain "Toll" is a jolly good fellow, and those who know him best like him most. He is the eldest son and child of R. A. and Mary Agnes Dickerson, and was born at the old Dickerson home place in the village of Sherman in 1849. He only had the advantage of the country schools, and grew up much as the other country boys of that day. He began life as a farmer and worked industriously at that occupation for several years. Later he engaged in the buying, shipping and rehandling of leaf tobacco. While he was an excellent judge of that crop and was prudent and economical for several years, "luck" seemed to be against him and he now proudly tells of the time when he was worth $10,000 less than nothing. He stuck to "his puncheon" however, and 1887 came around with its big crop and low prices and "Toll" pitched in to make a record-breaking purchase, and he did. In the spring and summer of 1888 tobacco took a skyward boom the like of which we had never seen before, and when Mr. Dickerson finally disposed of all his purchase he found himself with all of his debts paid and $20,000 in bank. So much for "Sticktoitiveness". Colonel Dickerson has been prominent in politics and in all of the business affairs of Grant County. He is at present one of the directors of the Grant County Deposit Bank, of the Grant County Building, Loan and Savings Association, and the senior member of the firm of Dickerson & Webster in the sale of fine vehicles. In recent years he has been remarkably successful in all of his undertakings, and his judgment on all matters of business is as good as any in the county. On March 16, 1899, he was united in marriage with Miss Nettie Webb, the charming daughter of J. H. Webb. He and his bride spent six months traveling in California and the South. They have one of the best homes in Williamstown on Falmouth Street. Dickerson Webb Webster = none http://www.rootsweb.com/~kygenweb/kybiog/grant/dickerson.rt.txt
