Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 7th ed., Grant Co. JOHN W. CHIPMAN, a native of Grant County, Ky., was born October 27, 1843, and is a son of William and Radie Ann (Juett) Chipman, natives of Grant County. William Chipman was born in 1818, and died June 10, 1875. His father was a native of Virginia, and, with the maternal grandfather of our subject, who was a native of Harrison County, Ky., were among the earliest settlers on Eagle Creek. John W. Chipman was reared on the farm, received a common school education and now owns 575 acres in Grant County, six miles west of Williamstown. June 10, 1869, he married Miss Sarah E. Wallace, daughter of Samuel and Maria Wallace, who was born in Madison County. Six children have been born to Mr. and Mrs. Chipman: Thomas, James W., Samuel, Almie, Ernie and Howard.
