Souvenir Edition, The Williamstown Courier, Williamstown, Ky, May 30, 1901, reprinted September 19, 1981 by the Grant County KY Historical Society. S. H. BIRD. The Dry Ridge Roller Mills, owned by J. A. Judy, would not look natural or be run property were it not for S. H. Bird, who has for more than fifteen years with brief intermission operated and conducted the said mills. He is an expert miller, and a good fellow, and more than that, always willing to work. S. H. Bird is a son of Thomas and Elizabeth Bird, and was born in the county of Kenton, March 17th, 1847. There were ten children, seven boys and three girls, in his father's family, and all are yet living. Mr. Bird was raised on a farm but early in life learned the trade of millwright. In 1878 he began his trade as the operator of the Knoxville Roller Mills, which he continued to operate for four years. In 1886 he came to Dry Ridge, and was in charge of the roller mills at that place for nine years. He then went to Morgan Station and ran the new roller mill at that place for three years, and then returned to Dry Ridge, and has been in charge for three years. March 13th, 1870, he was united in marriage to Miss Fannie Mann. To this union eight children have been born, of whom three are yet living. Mr. Bird is a member of the Baptist Church, and belongs to the subordinate lodge, I.O.O.F., the Encampment of Odd Fellows, and the Red Men, and is an active member of all these lodges.
