Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 7th ed., Gallatin Co. RALPH BRIGHT, a native of Clark County, Ky., was born January 17, 1817. His father, James Bright, a native of Princess Anne County, Va., was born in September 1776, and was a farmer. He settled near Winchester, Clark County, in an early day, lived for a brief period in Boone County, but died in Gallatin County in March 1865, He married Sidney Gilphin, of Wilmington, Del., daughter of Joseph (born in Pennsylvania), and Elizabeth (born in Liverpool, England) (Giles) Gilphin. Five sons and one daughter were born to their union, the subject of this sketch being the third child. Ralph Bright was educated in the common schools of Gallatin County, in which county he settled in 1827. He was reared on a farm, and for some time engaged in merchandising at Jackson Landing, in Gallatin County, on the Ohio River. He was magistrate for several years, and owns twenty-eight acres of land. He is a Republican, a Master Mason, and a member of the Baptist Church.
