Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Franklin Co. DR. U. V. WILLIAMS, born in Franklin County November 7, 1833, is the third son of David and Elizabeth (Ron) Williams. David Williams was born in Orange County, Va., in 1794, immigrated to Kentucky in 1816, and settled in Franklin County; was a blacksmith and machinist by trade and also farmed. The Doctor's grandfather, Jesse, was born in Virginia; immigrated to Kentucky in quite an early day, and settled in Richmond. He, too, was a blacksmith by trade. His father, David, was also a blacksmith, and both David and Jesse died from the effects of driving a horseshoe nail into the femoral artery while shoeing a horse. Dr. U. V. Williams was educated at Franklin County (Ky.) Military College; commenced to read medicine in 1851, and also commenced to teach school the same year, and taught in Franklin and Owen Counties until 1853. He attended a course of medical lectures at the Ohio Medical College, Cincinnati, in the winter of 1853-54, and attended another full course in the winter of 1854-55 at the same college and graduated. He then returned to Kentucky, and located in Anderson County, practicing until 1857; then moved to St. Charles County, Mo, and practiced till [sic] 1858; then went to Philadelphia, Penn., and attended a course of lectures at Jefferson Medical College in the winter of 1858-59, and graduated in 1859. David Williams died about this time, and the Doctor returned to Franklin County to look after the estate, and has been actively engaged in practicing in Franklin County from 1862 up to the present. He is one of the leading physicians in the county, owns a nice house and lot in the city of Frankfort, and is surrounded by plenty. May 15, 1862, he married Clemency Wilcox, a descendant of Daniel Boone. Her great-grandmother was Daniel Boone's sister. Clemency Wilcox is the daughter of Jesse and Elizabeth (Russell) Wilcox. Elizabeth Wilcox is a sister to Capt. John W. Russell. Four children have blessed the Doctor's union--three living: Pattie and Minnie I., members of the Presbyterian Church, and John W. R., a member of the Baptist Church. The Doctor is a Baptist and his wife a Presbyterian.
